Ned N. Castorina FN1/c
Ned N. Castorina was born on September 27, 1926 in Brooklyn New York, the youngest of four children.
He enlisted in the US Navy at age 17 and was one of the first sailor's ever to serve aboard the USS Skagit.
He met his wife Frances Savasta at a roller skating rink in Brooklyn before he went into the US Navy. They corresponded in many letters while he was overseas and were married later in 1948.
He had two children, seven grandchildren, and three great grandchildren. He resided in Brooklyn all his life, but owned a beautiful house in the Pocono Mountains of Pennsylvania where he used to take his grandchildren to in the summer time and spoil them.
He worked for the New York City Transit Authority as a Machinist, and retired in 1988.
He was a 9th Degree Red Belt in the Martial Arts of Karate, Jiu Jitsu, Aikido, and Judo. He owned and operated several Martial Arts schools in the NYC area.
He was very active in his church, and enjoyed good italian food, and time with his family. He passed away in October 1999 at age 73.
