Darrell lee Daugherty joined the navy at age 17, serving four years aboard USS Skagit as a Boat Cox'n. Skagit saw service in Korea, Indochina, and Vietnam, during his time aboard he participated in "Operation passage to Freedom".

After leaving the Navy, Darrell joined the U. S. Coast Guard retiring after sixteen yeras as a Boatswain's Mate Chief.

Darrell Lee Daugherty, 80, went on his heavenly journey accompanied by the angels on Friday, March 20, 2015. He was born in LaFayette, Ga., on Aug. 22, 1934, a son of the late Marion and Beatrice Paris Daugherty.

Darrell served the United States in Korea and Vietnam for you and me and was a military retiree.

He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Fort Oglethorpe. Darrell was a member of the Builders Sunday School class and served on the security team.

He is preceded in death by his childrens mother, Lois Tate. His great-great-grandfather was William Daugherty, an attorney who was the first owner of Mountain Cove Farm. He had the house which still stands on the property built.

Darrell was the last person to man the Lighthouse in Pensacola, Fla., before it went automatic. He retired from the Coast Guard Base near the Chickamauga Dam.

Survivors include his loving wife of 28 years, Beth Brown Baldwin Daugherty; daughter, Donna (Ricky) Miles; sons, Jeff and Danny, Todd and Trey Baldwin; sister, Pat Ellett; and favorite granddaughter, Kristin Baldwin.

Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Jason Thomas officiating. Interment will follow in the Chickamauga Cemetery.
