Edmund Harold Estes passed away at his home in Greenbelt, MD on September 12th, 2014. Loving father of Edmund A. Estes of Cary, NC, David C. Estes of Potomac, MD, and Ann Porras of Phoenix, AZ. Beloved son of the late Virgil C. and Flora Mae (nee Sledge) Estes. Family may call at Gasch's Funeral Home, P.A., 4739 Baltimore Avenue, Hyattsville, MD on Thursday, September 18 from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. where services will be held on Friday, September 19 at 11:00 a.m. Internment Maryland Veterans Cemetery, Crownsville, MD. Memorial contributions may be made in his name to Hospice of the Chesapeake, Philanthropy Department, 90 Ritchie Highway, Pasadena, MD 21122.





My dad, Edmund Harold (Hal) Estes, served on the USSSkagit during World War II until the end of the war when he returned home.
After the war, my dad worked at the Navy Yard in Washington DC until he retired in 1978.
He married Blanche C Vetter in 1947 and had three children, Edmund A Estes, David C Estes and Ann Estes Porras.. Blanche Estes died in April, 1998.
My father, Edmund Harold Estes passed away in Sept. 2014.
Do you know if there are any old crew members still alive who might be able to recall there experiences on the ship during WW II?
Let me know if you can share any info about the crew during 1944 to 1945.
