GASKIN, THOMAS ALLEN, JR. "COUNTRY", age 86, died May 20, 2003. He was the eldest son of Thomas Allen Gaskin and Julia Moore Gaskin. He was a graduate of Ramsay High School and The University of Florida. He was a member of Phi Delta Theta social fraternity. He served in WW II in the Pacific Theater as an officer on the USS Skagit. He served his community as a Mt. Brook city councilman and as Mayor of Mt. Brook. He was a proud member of the Mt. Brook Auxiliary Police Force. Mr. Gaskin was a member of The Country Club of Birmingham and an enthusiastic founding member of Duffy's Bend Hunting Club. Mr. Gaskin is survived by his devoted wife of 62 years, Chita Smith Gaskin, three sons, Thomas Allen Gaskin, Ill, Emmett Lee Gaskin, and James McCune Gaskin, and one daughter, Chita Beasley. Middleton. His grandchildren are Allen Campbell Gaskin, Chita Smith Middleton, Ashley Edith Middleton, Emily Hilyer Gaskin, and Mary Beasley Gaskin. He had survived his brother, George "Bo" Gaskin, and his sister, Florence Gaskin Cole. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church. Funeral services will be at The Ridout's Valley Chapel at 2 p.m. Thursday 22nd of May with a private family internment to follow. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials to The Southern Environmental Law Center 201 West Main Street Charlottesville, VA. 22902 or to The Baptist Breast Care Center c/o Baptist Health Foundation 3500 Blue Lake Drive Birmingham, Alabama 35283.
