Gene R. Moore, 88, passed away January 4, 2016. Born in Kentucky on December 25, 1927, he was always recognized as a "Christmas Baby". His parents were Bruce and Nellie Moore and had two sisters, Patricia and Sherry. When he was a young boy Gene's family moved to a rural area outside of Pittsburg, PA where he grew up.

At the tender age of 17 he enlisted in the Navy in which he served for 27 years. He started as an enlisted man peeling potatoes in a kitchen, was accepted into officer training school, worked his way up through the ranks and retired as a Commander in 1972.

As a young enlisted man stationed on the island of Oahu in 1945 he met a young lady named Eleanor Oschetzki. He courted her for 3 years before they married. They were married for 66 years, had five children, Alan, Linda, David, Susan and Tim, eight grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren.

After retiring from the Navy, he finished his college work receiving a "Bachelor of Science in Math" and a "Master of Science in Education". Gene was a math and computer teacher at Bayside Jr. High for 20 years and retired from his teaching career in 1993.

In his retirement years Gene traveled across country several times with Eleanor and 2 of his youngest children, Sue and Tim. They camped, visited family and went hiking in national parks.

He acquired other interests such as playing tennis, sailing, astronomy and his favorite, "gardening". His quest was to grow the most delicious organic tomatoes. He was also a huge "Star Trek" fan.

Gene was active in the community, serving on the Board Council of Civics Leagues and the Pembroke Manor Civic League for over 20 years. He was also the editor of the "Brook", the Pembroke Manor monthly newsletter.

Left to cherish his memory is his wife of 66 years, Eleanor, five children, their spouses and friends and surviving sister, Patricia Mason. He was preceded in death by his youngest sister, Sherry DeNardo.
