Scotia New York Luther Pangburn, 78, of Sacandaga Road, died Wednesday, August 17, 2005 at Ellis Hospital after a short illness. Mr. Pangburn was born in Schenectady and was a graduate of Mont Pleasant High School. He was a U.S. Navy veteran who served on the Albany, Sampson and the USS Skagit during World War II. He had been a postman for a short time before becoming a fireman for the City of Schenectady. He served the department from 1953 to 1981, retiring as a lieutenant. Luther is survived by several nieces, nephews, greatnieces, greatnephews and many friends from the Fire Department, including Doug LaPoint. A funeral service with Fire Department and Military Honors will take place Monday afternoon, 1 p.m. at the Gerald B. H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery in Schuylerville. There will be no calling hours.
