Mr. Richard W. Peyser, 82, of 260 Aldrich Road, passed away on Thursday, Oct. 11, 2001, at the Portsmouth Regional Hospital. Born Aug. 30, 1919, Mr. Peyser was the son of the late Honorable Harry W. Peyser and Katherine W. Peyser.

He graduated from Portsmouth schools in 1936; the Hackley School in Tarrytown, N.Y., Class of 1937; and Dartmouth College in 1941.

During World War II, he served as Lieutenant Commander in the U.S. Navy until released to inactive duty in 1946.

He was employed as a field representative for Prentice Hall Inc. and the New Hampshire and Maine Register, until joining Tom Fabisak Realty in 1978, retiring in December 1993.

As a young man, Mr. Peyser played hockey with the Rye Sea Hawks, later was a member of the Portsmouth Country Club, and was a current member and past president of the Warwick Club.

He is survived by his wife Barbara Bridle Peyser, sons Richard W. Peyser Jr., David H. Peyser and John G. Peyser, daughter-in-law Laurie Peyser, and cousin Laurence G. Peyser, all of Portsmouth; 10 grandchildren, Katharine Peyser, Jennifer Peyser, Kevin Peyser, Keith Peyser, Darcy Peyser, George Peyser, William Peyser, Richard Peyser, all of Portsmouth; and Elisabeth Peyser and Lauren Peyser, both of Rye; two nieces, Barbara Riley of Norwood, Mass., and Kate Huntress of Dover. He was predeceased by his brother, Frank W. Peyser, in 1997, and sister, Virginia P. Kunkle, who passed away in 1991.
