Marvin C. Plunkett
Marvin Carl Plunkett, age 87, of Douglasville passed on to his Heavenly home July 23, 2021. Marvin was born to Ewell and Effie Plunkett in Bowden, GA, but grew up in Douglasville. He graduated from Douglas County High School and went on to join the U.S. Navy. Marvin was very proud of his service to his country, and was a veteran of the Korean War where he served upon the U.S.S. Skagit.
After his military service, Marvin worked for John H. Harland. Eventually, he bought the office supply division of Harland and went on to open a store in Douglasville. Marvin was a member of Clarkdale First Baptist and loved his church. In his free time, he enjoyed fishing, and was a talented whistler. His whistling was so incredible that it would fool the birds into talking with him. He also had a beautiful singing voice and loved to sing in the church choir. Marvin was preceded in death by his first wife, LaVerne Plunkett; son, Chuck Barron; sister, Cora Nell Tush; and granddaughter, Jesica Barron.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 34 years, Joyce Plunkett; children, Tony (wife, Dana) Plunkett of Calhoun, GA, Trina (husband, Douglas) Robbins of Paulding County, and Leanne Parson of Douglasville; grandchildren; Brent (wife, Kathryn), Mari (husband, Greg), Carl, Amanda (husband, Quinton), and Erica; seven great-grandchildren; siblings, Martha Davis, Tommy (wife, Debra) Plunkett, and Evelyn Steele; and many beloved nieces, nephews, and extended family.
Funeral services will be held Sunday, July 25th, 2:00 PM at Davis-Struempf Chapel with Rev. Billy Hooper officiating. Interment will follow the service at Rose Haven Cemetery in Douglasville.
The family will receive friends from 11:00 AM to 2:00 PM before the service. Flowers are kindly accepted, however, in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Clarkdale First Baptist Church, 5041 Austell Powder Springs Rd SW, Clarkdale, GA 30111.
